Product shot inspiration

To find inspiration and ideas that would work with our lookbook, we researched different brands and designers and how they have took their product shots. We had at this point decided to use a person to present our clothes rather than a flat lay, to give a better idea of the scale and fit of the garment, therefore most of below pictures feature models. As the products are one-of-a-kind produce, we believe it is good to have them individually presented on a model, to ensure that what you see is what you get.

The above product shots all feature a coloured background. This is a nice addition when the product itself is lightly coloured, but we found that it not to be suitable for ours as they are mostly light and dark blues. The bottom left shot above seems to disappear and lose some of its details to the background due to its dark colour, however it does bring the teal and red details out more. These shots gave us the idea to use a chair in the photoshoot, as it seems to work extremely well and allow more poses to present a jumpsuit.

We like the retro-like look of these shots, and believe they would attract our target niche. The warm colours and minimal editing make the products look more lifelike and available, and the shadowing and over exposure goes well with the slightly crazy look of Helena Bonham Carter. She would be our perfect customer.

Both of the jumpsuits have detailed cuffs, which are a feature we wish to emphasise in our product shots.

If we were to take some product shots without live models, we would like to add some groovy elements to the shots. Although the main focus of this picture is clearly on the garment, the white mannequin hand holding the wire hanger adds an interesting detail to the picture. The drape of the fabric is also cleverly shown by letting the garment sit on a display, rather than just fully hanging it up. A pop of colour in the corners of the finished shot guides you to look at the jumper.

Both Altar and Riffraff have ideal product shots on their websites, featuring strong female characters as their models. This is the kind of look we wish to achieve but with a white background and slightly brighter lights.
